Good Letter Writing (goodletterwriting.com) is a free guide to writing letters. This page explains what information the site collects when you use it, why, and what your choices are.
What we collect and why
Visiting the site. Like every website, this one is delivered by servers that record the IP address, browser type and pages requested for each visit. The site is hosted by hosting.com and protected by Cloudflare, which also caches pages so they load faster. Those logs are used to keep the site running and secure and are not used to identify visitors.
Analytics. We use Clicky to count visits and see which pages are read, so we know which guides to improve. Clicky is set up in its privacy mode: IP addresses are anonymised and no tracking cookie is set. It records the pages you view, the page that referred you, your browser and device type and an approximate location at country or region level. You can opt out of Clicky on every site that uses it at clicky.com/optout.
Contacting us. If you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address and message by email and keep them only as long as needed to reply and deal with what you asked. We do not add you to any mailing list and we never sell or pass on your details.
What we do not do. The site has no user accounts, no comments, no newsletter and no shop. We do not collect payment details.
Cookies
To our knowledge the site itself sets no cookies for ordinary visitors, and our analytics is configured not to set tracking cookies. Two things to be aware of:
- Cloudflare, which protects the site, may set a short-lived technical cookie to tell real visitors from automated traffic.
- Pages that embed a YouTube video (for example the Formal Letter Format page) load the video from YouTube, and YouTube may then set its own cookies under its own privacy policy.
Advertising
The site does not currently show adverts. If that changes, this page will be updated first to say which advertising network is used, what it collects and how to opt out, and a consent notice will ask for your agreement before any advertising cookie is set.
Who else sees your data
Only the services named above: hosting.com (hosting), Cloudflare (security and caching), Clicky (analytics) and the email service that delivers contact-form messages to us. Each processes data on our behalf under its own terms.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to how it is used. Use the contact form and we will reply within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
Changes are shown by the date at the top of this page. Adding advertising would be a significant change and this page would be updated before it happened.
